What Is Multitasking? Ask U.S. Bobsledder Chuck Berkeley

Somewhere between being a husband, father and a full-time sales representative, 37-year-old bobsledder Chuck Berkeley from California also finds time to train five days each week as a brakeman, hoping to qualify for a spot on the 2014 U.S. Olympic Team.

“My life is mostly in a state of constant flux,” he writes in his blog. “The best way I can describe it is to call it chaotic balance or disorganized structure. … For some reason though, the more I put on my plate, the better I tend to perform.”

In contrast to his relatively tranquil home and work life, Berkeley’s Olympic quest seats him in the back of a 170-kilogram bobsled for about 50 seconds, hurtling at speeds beyond 110 kph as the sled navigates curves, shakes and bumps on a concrete track coated with ice.

“I'm just grateful that I have an ability that lets me compete at an elite level on top of everything else I have going on,” he said.
