Georgian Prime Minister Sees Inside U.S. Navy Ship

U.S. Navy Captain Robert Katz, left, commander of the guided-missile cruiser USS Vella Gulf, explains some of the Vella Gulf’s technology to Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili, right, while the ship is in port in Batumi, Georgia. Between them is U.S. Ambassador to Georgia Richard Norland.

The Vella Gulf, home-ported in Norfolk, Virginia, entered the Black Sea on August 6 to promote peace and stability in the region. The ship is demonstrating the U.S. commitment to the collective security of NATO allies and partners, Navy officials said.
