The U.S. Department of State is sponsoring a special exchange program on open education resources for educational leaders in the Middle East and North Africa as part of its effort to provide greater access to educational tools to help underserved youth.

Educational innovators and policymakers from Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, the Palestinian Territories, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Tunisia and Yemen will participate in three-week mini-internship programs in the United States at leading organizations in the open-education movement, including the OpenCourseWare Consortium, the Hewlett Foundation and Creative Commons.

The program supports the State Department’s Open Book Project, initiated in early 2013 in partnership with the Arab League Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization and World Learning.

Shown above are participants in the exchange program in Washington.
