April 2014 will see the official launch of the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), the successor body to the Competition Commission and the Office of Fair Trading. This new organisation will build on the existing work of the UK competition authorities to promote competition, within and outside the UK. Our mission is to make markets work well in the interests of consumers, businesses and the economy. Our ambition is to be a world-leading competition and consumer agency.

Our work is both complex and compelling, with the potential to impact on the lives of everyone in the UK - and for those who join us at this formative time it offers a uniquely exciting professional opportunity.

The CMA is currently recruiting:

  • Economics Interns to provide economic analysis and support for cases and projects across the office - the CMA summer economics internship programme is an 8 to 12 week placement that runs from early or mid July 2014 offering paid employment and experience working with government economists.
  • An Organisational Transformation Manager to identify, prioritise and champion opportunities for organisational transformation in the CMA capable of enhancing the performance of the organisation as a whole.
  • Economics Directors to ensure that the work carried out by the Economics Team in the Enforcement and Markets and Mergers Directorates is of high quality, represents current international best practice, and plays a key role in ensuring that the activities of the Directorates have maximum economics impact in contributing to the CMA making markets work well in the interests of consumers, businesses and the economy.
  • A Director, Sector Regulation to oversee the development of effective, positive and influencing relationships with the FCA and the PSR, supporting effective coordination, cooperation and strategic dialogue between the CMA and them.
  • An Assistant Director, Sector Regulation to oversee the development of effective, positive and influencing relationships with the sector regulators supporting effective coordination, cooperation and strategic dialogue between the CMA and sector regulators and taking opportunities to achieve synergy through partnership working.
  • A Manager, Sector Regulation to help the CMA make markets work well in the interests of consumers, businesses and the economy in the regulated sectors by building relationships with the sector regulators with a view to promoting competition and enforcing competition law in those sectors.
  • A Head of Econometrics responsible for ensuring that the econometrics work carried out by the economics team is of high quality, represents state-of-the-art thinking, and plays a key role in ensuring that the activities of the Directorates have maximum impact in contributing to the CMA making markets function effectively.
  • An Econometric Adviser to contribute to ensuring that the econometrics work carried out by the economics teams is of high quality, represents state-of-the-art thinking, and plays a key role in ensuring that the activities of the Directorates have maximum impact in contributing to the CMA making markets function effectively.
  • A Director, Financial and Business Analysis to ensure that the CMA’s financial and business advisors provide high quality, timely insightful advice and analysis.
  • A Financial and Business Analysis Adviser to offer expert insight, analysis and advice on financial and business issues as they relate to CMA’s inquiry work, which involves a wide array of merger, market, regulatory and competition activity in both UK and EU marketplaces.
  • A Financial Analyst who will work closely with economists and legal advisers in multi disciplinary teams to provide analysis and insight on merger, market, regulatory and Competition Act inquiries through the collection, analysis, interpretation and presentation of high quality financial information.
