It can today been revealed that Express Newspapers, journalist Lee Sorrell and online editor Geoff Marsh have each been served with a claim that will be heard at Preston County Court (reference A59YM735).

The lawsuit or claim, received by the Court on 24 June 2014 was issued on 2 July and it will be deemed as served tomorrow, 30 July 2014, according to the Court record.

According to the Particulars of Claim, which seeks £300,000 in compensation and recovery for damages pursuant the Harassment Act; harassment that also resulted in considerable damage to the claimants' businesses, the claimants describe an alleged invasion of privacy by the Home Office/UKBA and continuation of harassment by the Agency.

While there is no freestanding right to privacy recognised in the UK, despite EU legislation that guarantees the right to privacy, the claim asserts a breach of confidence by Home Office/UKBA officials, who it is alleged provided the defendants with personal and private details regarding the claimants' immigration record.
