We are holding free events that outline the changes to the DBS because of the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012 - and just as importantly, what hasn’t changed.

The events are targeted to those who have a responsibility for removing individuals from regulated activity posts where harm has, or may, occur, with special emphasis on the barring functions of the DBS.

We provide detailed guidance on the duty to refer, submission of referrals and the information required to support a referral to the DBS. A complete event lasts around three hours, allowing for questions and the opportunity to comment. Events will cover:

  • background to the DBS and legislative changes
  • the statutory functions of the DBS
  • referral responsibilities and guidance
  • regulated activity, relevant conduct and risk of harm definitions
  • the DBS barring decision making processes and considerations

To find out more read our duty to refer events schedule (PDF, 78.4KB, 2 pages)

The next event will be in Truro on the 1 May and you can use the Truro booking form (MS Word Document, 116KB) to request a place. It is expected that future events will become available for booking approximately six weeks before the event date. We will update the booking form and alert you with a news story as these events become available for booking.
