New Chair Of The Pensions Regulator Appointed

The Department for Work and Pensions announced today that Mark Boyle has been appointed as Chair of The Pensions Regulator

Mark Boyle will take up his post from 1 April 2014 for a 4-year term.

Pensions Minister Steve Webb said:

"I am pleased to announce that Mark Boyle will be the next chair of The Pensions Regulator. Mark is a proven leader who brings a wealth of private and public sector experience to the role and I look forward to working with him.

"I would like to thank Michael O’Higgins for the work he has done in this role over the last 3 years. Michael has successfully overseen major initiatives including the launch of automatic enrolment and I wish him every success for the future."

Mark Boyle said:

"I am delighted to be appointed as Chair of The Pensions Regulator. I look forward to leading the board and ensuring that the regulator continues to deliver its objectives while at the same time playing an active part in dealing with the challenges faced by the broader pensions industry."

More about the appointment

The Chair of the Pensions Regulator is a public appointment made by the Secretary of State for the Department for Work and Pensions. It follows an open competition regulated by The Office for the Commissioner of Public Appointments.

Mark Boyle

Mark Boyle’s career to date spans the banking, corporate and central government sectors. He is currently the independent Non-Executive Chairman of HM Land Registry and was previously Director and Chief Operating Officer of the Shareholder Executive. His corporate career comprised senior commercial roles at Compass Group and Rentokil Initial while his banking career comprised roles at Lloyds Bank and Kleinwort Benson.

Michael O’Higgins

Michael O’Higgins, the current chair, will stand down on 31 March 2014. He was appointed as Chair of The Pensions Regulator from 1 January 2011.

The Pensions Regulator

The Pensions Regulator is the regulator of work-based pension schemes in the UK. It is an executive non-departmental public body of the Department for Work and Pensions.
