Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with President of Finland Sauli Niinistö on the Finnish side’s initiative.

During an exchange of opinions about the development of the crisis situation in Ukraine, the two presidents stressed the need to increase international efforts to facilitate the political settlement to the Ukrainian conflict.

Mr Putin and Mr Niinistö spoke in favour of immediately launching a thorough international investigation under the aegis of the ICAO into the air crash in Donetsk Region in accordance with the UN Security Council resolution 2166, adopted on July 21. In this regard, both leaders stressed the importance of quickly reaching a ceasefire at the crash site.

The presidents also touched on prospects for Russia-EU relations and addressed issues on bilateral agenda.
